Jed Schipper Death, Obituary – has passed away untimely and unexpectedly leaving family, friends, loved ones, and the entire community in heartbreak and in grievance.  On October 6, 2022, Janet Schipper, who resided in Viroqua, Wisconsin, passed away at the age of 92. She frequently expressed how thankful she was to have lived such a long and fulfilling life. On April 10, 1930, Janet was born to her parents, Albon and Verl (DeGarmo) Sordahl (Sherry), at the family farm on Asbury Ridge, which is located in rural Viroqua. She was educated at the Asbury Ridge School and in later years became involved in the planning of alumni gatherings. In addition to being a teacher at a Sunday school, Janet was a troop leader for both the Girl Scouts and the Cub Scouts.

She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from what was then known as La Crosse State College in 1968, where she completed her education. After that, she worked as a teacher at the Liberty Pole Center for a total of three years, teaching sixth grade. Additionally, Janet was an advocate for the local community. She was active in the Viroqua Main Street Project as well as the Vernon County Historical Society. In addition to that, she was the first woman to ever hold the position of chairperson on the Viroqua Police and Fire Commission and worked as a fundraising consultant for the Vernon Memorial Hospital Foundation.

Her parents, her husband, her son, and her in-laws, Edward and Irene Schipper, all passed away before Janet, and her husband and son both died before her. Surviving members of her family include her daughter, K. (Emerson) Schwartzkopf, who lives in Palm Springs, California; her son, Karl (Jody Pritzl), who lives in Denver; her daughter-in-law, Pam Schipper, who lives in Viroqua; her three grandchildren, James, Hayley, and Rebecca Schipper, who all live in Viroqua; and several cousins.

At eleven in the morning on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, there was a funeral service held at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home located in Viroqua. Visitation started at 9:30 in the morning and continued up until the time of the funeral services. After the funeral service, there was a reception that was held at the funeral home. The interment took place at the Viroqua Cemetery.
