They found out earlier this week that Wally “Watcher” Green had passed away.

We would like to take this opportunity to extend our most sincere sympathies not just to Wally Green’s immediate family, but also to his larger whanau pani. We are deeply sorry for the loss you have suffered. Wally’s playing career was highlighted by his commitment to the sport of rugby league, for which he was picked to represent both his side and the Auckland Rugby League. As a result of this dedication, Wally was able to play for both the Auckland Rugby League and his team.

Throughout the course of the decade that took place in the 1990s, Wally was the team manager for a variety of different representative sides, including the Auckland side. These sides included both national and international teams. Following his retirement, Wally took the choice to keep his level of activity high by agreeing to take a job as the keeper of Cornwall Park for a period of years. This decision was made after Wally had already retired. He did this in order to preserve his ability to take pleasure in the natural world.

In addition to that, during the course of his life, he has volunteered his time and resources by working in the kitchen of the ARL Jets Camps Hunua. This is an outstanding contribution of both his time and his resources. Both Wally’s wake and funeral will take place tomorrow at the Papatoetoe Funeral Cottage, which will also serve as the setting for the wake. Wally will be laid to rest in the same place. The exact time and location is one o’clock in the afternoon on Friday, December 23rd, and it will take place at the Papatoetoe Funeral Cottage, which can be found at 34 Kolmar Road in Papatoetoe.
