After graduating from Cleveland Heights High School and completing the secondary school portion of his studies, he continued his study at Kent State University. In the day-to-day running of the family company, which comprised two bowling alleys known as Mayland Lanes and Eastgate Coliseum, he was a tremendous asset to his father.

In his later years, he enjoyed a prosperous career in sales, first with Cellular One and subsequently with Verizon Wireless. During these years, he was employed by both companies. He was able to accomplish a significant deal of success in each of these roles. He was the happy father of three children named Leeland (Katie), Adam, and Austin (Dominic Laspina) Sussel, and he had a specific relationship with each of them in his own special way. His children’s names are all a play on the names of famous musicians. Katie’s middle name was given to Leeland, Adam was named after Adam, and Austin was named after Dominic Laspina.

In addition to his own children, Jeff is survived by his four siblings: Michelle Goss (Dean), Mark Phinick (Meg), Raymond Sussel (Regina Olbinsky), and Robin Somers.
