David Brierton Obituary – David H. Brierton Jr.” retired Colonel at The Florida Highway Patrol has sadly passed away unexpectedly after serving the community for more than 32 years. A statement was issued by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) in which they said, “It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of Retired Colonel David H. Brierton Jr.”
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Colonel Brierton “was a dedicated member and leader of the Florida Highway Patrol for more than 32 years and served as the 11th Director of the Florida Highway Patrol.” Those who knew him and had the opportunity to collaborate with him will shed many tears at his passing.
In 1983, Colonel Brierton joined the Florida Highway Patrol and was initially a part of the 69th Recruit Class when he first began his career in the FHP. After that, he began his career in the Miami-Dade Police Department, initially as a trooper and later as a sergeant. In 1989, he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant within the department.
Following his assignment in Bradenton, he obtained a promotion to the rank of captain in 1993 and transferred back to south Florida. There, he was in charge of overseeing operations in the counties of Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, and Monroe. Prior to this assignment, he was stationed in Bradenton.
According to the information provided by the organization, in 2003 he was promoted to the rank of major and given a position at the headquarters of the Florida Highway Patrol in Tallahassee. There, he oversaw both investigations and professional compliance as part of his responsibilities.
According to the Federal Highway Administration (FHP), Colonel Brierton was given the responsibility of supervising Patrol Operations, Investigations, Contraband Interdiction, Emergency Operations, and Homeland Security in 2006 after being promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel and receiving a promotion in the same year.
He was given a promotion to the rank of colonel in 2011, and he remained in that capacity until the year 2015, when he retired from the military. Colonel Brierton served as a military police officer in the Army prior to joining the Federal Highway Patrol and becoming a member of that agency.
The FHP has requested that everyone remember the Brierton family in their thoughts and prayers, and they are grateful for the support they have received from everyone. As they mourn the loss of a loved one, they have requested seclusion during this trying time so that they can properly grieve.
