Robert Cooney Death, Obituary – WAREHAM – Robert F. “Bob” Cooney, Jr., of East Wareham has passed away suddenly at the age of 61 on Friday, December 16, 2022 at Tobey Hospital in Wareham. He was Joan C. (Bradford) Cooney’s spouse, and he was Joan C. (Bradford) Cooney’s husband. He was born in Dorchester, and his late mother, Marie (Skehan) Cooney of Lakeville, Massachusetts, and his late father, Dr. Robert F. Cooney, were his parents. Marie (Skehan) Cooney passed away.
Bob has lived in Wareham for the all of his life. After completing his high school education at Sacred Heart High School in Kingston with the Class of 1979, he moved on to pursue his undergraduate education at Springfield College, where he received his bachelor’s degree in 1984. When we met, he was working at Aubuchon Hardware in Wareham as the store manager. At the time of our talk, he had this position.
Bob was a major music enthusiast and loved listening to songs that were popular in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. In particular, he enjoyed listening to songs that were popular during those decades. Skiing and astronomy were two of his favorite hobbies. He was a huge fan of trivia games and never missed an episode of Jeopardy. He also enjoyed doing the daily crossword puzzle that was printed in the Boston Globe.
In addition to being a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church, which is situated in Wareham, Bob was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in Wareham and belonged to the Fr. Grogan Council # 15280 of the Knights of Columbus. Surviving members of his family include his wife Joan, who lives in East Wareham; his daughters Lisa M. Cooney and Patricia A. Cooney, both of Wareham; his mother Marie, who lives in Lakeville; and his brothers and sisters, Mary Crossman and husband, Daren, of Lakeville.
Also survived by Tim Cooney and Kathleen Braley and husband, Ralph, both of Wareham; Carol Spenard and husband, Ken of Rochester; Teresa Mattson and husband, Wayne of Marion; Dan Cooney and Ga In addition, he is survived by a sizable number of nieces and nephews, as well as “Sadie,” the dog that he cherished very much.
His funeral is scheduled to begin at Chapman Funerals & Cremations – Wareham on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at nine in the morning. This establishment can be found in Wareham at 2599 Cranberry Hwy. (Rt. 28). After this, there will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 10:00 AM. This will take place in St. Patrick’s Church in Wareham, which can be found at 94 High St. The burial will take place in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Wareham immediately after the conclusion of the funeral service.
On Tuesdays, the hours during which we will be able to receive guests will be from 4 pm to 7 pm.
