Betty Yates Death, Obituary – Betty YatesOn Sunday, December 18, 2022, Betty J. Yates died away at the Laurels of DeKalb in Butler. She had reached the age of 95. She considered the town of Butler to be her permanent abode. She was born to parents George Dohner and Edith (Worthington) Dohner on April 14, 1927, in DeKalb County, Georgia.
Her mother’s maiden name was Worthington. She was the only kid that they had. The wedding between Betty Yates and Charles Yates took place on November 18th, 1945 in Butler. The couple became legally married after the ceremony. It was on April 13, 2022, that he died away, one day before she did on April 14, 2022.
She worked as a seamstress for a number of years on her own as a self-employed seamstress, performing modifications and repairs on a variety of pieces of clothing while working out of her house. She also worked for a number of years at a firm that specialized in producing bespoke draperies during the time that she was employed at Marshall Clothing in Butler.
This was in addition to the fact that she was employed there. Betty was a highly active member of the Butler EUB Church, which subsequently changed its name to the Butler United Methodist Church. During this time, Betty was a member of the church and it was known by its previous moniker. In addition to working as a janitor at the church and being fairly involved in women’s groups over the course of many years, she was also responsible for the provision of food for meals and other occasions.
Her responsibilities included the provision of food. During this period, she was also in charge of ensuring that there was sufficient food available. A volunteer for the Bloodmobile, an election worker for the DeKalb County Election Board, and a driver for the Meals on Wheels program for over a quarter of a century, Betty was active in all three capacities for virtually the entirety of her life. The DeKalb County Election Board had all of these seats filled at one point or another. In addition to that, she had a significant passion for working in the garden.
